"Indoors Out" on DIY
Episode: "Open Range Saloon"
• Sept. 9, 6:00 p.m. EDT/PDT
• Sept. 10, 11:00 a.m. EDT/PDT
Jon and Teresa Nelson are Texas transplants from the East Coast. They love the Austin nightlife and — whether it's two-stepping at the Broken Spoke or dining with friends at their favorite Tex-Mex restaurant — they can't get enough of the Lone Star State. That's why they'd love to have a room in their house or yard devoted to entertaining...Texas style. Hosts Dean Marsico and Derek Stearns get started by setting posts for a rough-sawn cedar arbor in a unique fan-shaped pattern to shade the existing concrete patio. To turn the concrete patio into a real Texas saloon, they build a bar area with block and then veneer it with dry stack stone. They dress up the stairs leading from the house to the backyard with sandstone pavers, build a brick wall with a rustic concrete lone star for Texas flavor and create an additional area for entertainment with a fire pit surrounded by seating in their brand new open range saloon.
Episode: "Newlywed Dining Nook"
• Sept. 11, 2:00 p.m. EDT/PDT
High school sweethearts and newlyweds Lauren and Kevin Woodley just moved into the bachelor pad that Kevin had shared with his buddies for the last three years. The couple worked hard to make the inside more female-friendly, but with limited space for dining and a backyard better suited for "Animal House" than grown-up living, they needed help. So they asked stonemasons and hosts Dean Marsico and Derek Stearns to accommodate both of their tastes and transform their backyard from "frat party" to fabulous.
Episode: "Decked Out Den"
• Sept. 11, 2:30 p.m. EDT/PDT
With a month to go before their "big day," Robb and Deanna are eager to finalize their wedding plans. The inside of their house is finished, but they don't quite have the space they need to entertain both sides of their family. They ask hosts Dean Marsico and Derek Stearns to help create the ideal setting for family gatherings and relaxing evenings alone — a completely decked-out den. So Dean and Derek design an outdoor living space complete with plenty of seating, an outdoor television and more. Their V-shaped design opens up to a squared center fire pit — perfect for entertaining year-round. And, for the bright summer months, they install a remote-controlled awning and a romantic water feature.
