Log home professionals and companies were recognized last week in Harrisburg, Pa. by the Log Homes Council (LHC) of NAHB for their service to the industry.
“It has been a tremendous year for the log homes industry and the future looks even brighter,” said Al Theriault, incoming president of the council and director of operations for Kuhns Bros. Log Homes in Lewisburg, Pa. As the industry continues to gain visibility in the marketplace, he said, “more home buyers are considering log homes as primary residences.”
There were some 27,000 log homes constructed in the U.S. last year.
The winners included:
- Doug Parsons, president of log homes manufacturer Appalachian Log Structures in Ripley, W.Va., received the President’s Award for his work on the council’s technical committee and an 18-month research study with Oak Ridge National Laboratory that will produce the most quantitative analysis of the energy and thermal mass benefits of solid log wall construction available.
- Katahdin Cedar Log Homes of Oakfield, Maine was awarded the Image Award for its work on the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” television program. The company organized construction of the show’s first log home for a Maine lobsterman who lost his arm in an accident at sea. Hundreds of dealers from the company traveled to Wells, Maine to help assemble a dream home for Doug Goodale and his family in just five days.
- Mark Feder, outgoing LHC president and vice president of sales for Appalachian Log Structures, was honored for his service to the council. Feder has been a member of the LHC Steering Committee for the past four years. Under his presidency, the council undertook several technical and marketing initiatives designed to promote the log home industry. As immediate past president, Feder will chair the council’s ethics committee.
