Building Systems Councils to Include Concrete Home Building

Dedicated to promoting the benefits of concrete systems to home builders across the country, the Concrete Home Building Council will officially become a new sub-council of NAHB’s Building Systems Councils (BSC) with the start of the new year.

NAHB members using, or interested in, concrete systems for above grade residential construction can join the BSC’s Systems Builders Council, which represents manufacturers, builders and associates in the systems-built housing industry.

“Residential concrete construction is a rapidly growing segment of the home building industry,” said BSC Chairman Joe Landers, “and we are pleased to market and promote the benefits of this building system to our current members, new members and consumers.”

Although concrete systems have always been favored for foundations and below-grade work, approximately 14% of new construction used a type of concrete wall system in a 2002 study.

The Concrete Home Building Council plans to educate current NAHB members and consumers on the benefits of Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF), concrete masonry units, autoclaved aerated concrete, removable forms (cast-in-place) and panel & precast systems.

While programs for 2004 and beyond are currently being planned, NAHB members can learn about ICF construction during the International Builders’ Show by attending the BSC’s “Introduction to ICF Technology” education session, Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 4:00 p.m. in North 111-112, Level 1.

Information on all concrete building systems is currently available by clicking here. Additional information will be posted after the New Year on www.nahb.org/buildingsystems.

NAHB’s Building Systems Councils is comprised of several sub-councils that promote the systems-built housing industry. The Concrete Home Building Council joins the Modular Building Systems Council, the Panelized Building Systems Council, the Log Homes Council, the Systems Builders Council and the Associate Members Council under the BSC umbrella.
