Bob the Builder Teaches Children About Safety

With the help of a beloved children’s character, more than 500 home builders associations and their members nationwide are working to educate children, parents and caregivers about keeping kids safe at home.

Through participation in the Bob the Builder™ “Blueprints for Home Safety” public awareness promotion, which is centered around a 12-page activity book highlighting key safety messages, members are increasing community awareness of accidents and unintentional injuries that young children can sustain in their homes.

Members and associations have found innovative opportunities to implement the program, including featuring the books at home and garden shows, fire and safety awareness activities, charity events and elementary schools.

The Home Builders Association of Tuscaloosa, AL, is distributing 500 activity books in conjunction with a traveling museum exhibit designed to teach elementary school students about the home building industry.

The Women’s Council of the Lake Norman Home Builders Association in Moresville, NC, distributed 200 activity books at its Sixth Annual Interactive Children’s Safety Program.

The Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis is featuring the activity books as part of “Raise the Roof,” a hands-on construction science exhibit at the nationally renowned Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.

“The Blueprints for Home Safety coloring books were a perfect fit for a partnership our association had already established with the Indianapolis Children's Museum to sponsor their Raise the Roof exhibit about construction and home safety,” said Steve Lains, CEO of the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis.

The Blueprints for Home Safety promotion is the result of a partnership between NAHB and HIT Entertainment, creator of the Bob the Builder™ brand. To date, NAHB has distributed more than 200,000 Blueprints for Home Safety activity books to NAHB members and state and local home builders associations across the United States.

Members and associations interested in participating in the Bob the Builder™ “Blueprints for Home Safety” promotion can find more information and download an order form online by clicking here.

In addition to the activity book, the Blueprints for Home Safety awareness promotion includes a public service announcement and a home safety Web site that features a downloadable poster and additional safety tips; click here.

The public service announcement also is showcased on the “Bob the Builder: A Christmas to Remember” home video, featuring the music and voice of Elton John.
