State & Local Issues Fund Deadline Draws Near
In these hard economic times, legislative, ballot and regulatory issues relevant to the housing industry are popping up at an alarming rate. Unfortunately, many HBAs, maybe even your own, do not have the funds to address these issues properly.

This is why now, more than ever, the State & Local Issues Fund is a vital resource to the housing community. The purpose of the Issues Fund is to provide support to HBAs in order to successfully deal with a legislative, regulatory or ballot issue that has national significance (i.e. national implications beyond the HBA’s jurisdiction) or is a common industry problem whose resolution could be precedent setting and might not succeed without financial support from NAHB.

During each Board of Directors meeting, SLIF applications are reviewed and funds of up to $25,000 are awarded to HBAs whose regulatory, legislative or ballot issues are the most pressing.

Each year, SLIF makes it possible for HBAs to deal with emerging issues at the local level that would otherwise be too costly for an HBA to address.  In 2008, the Bryan/College Station Home Builders Association was able to tackle a proposed extraterritorial jurisdiction growth regulation that, if approved, would have cost the housing industry immensely.

The deadline to apply for funding from SLIF to be awarded during the Spring Board of Directors meeting is April 24. To download a copy of the SLIF application, or for more information, please visit http://www.nahb.org/slif or contact Elizabeth Ambrose.
