Governor Races Likely to Impact Presidential Election
Democratic and Republican governors' groups are raising record amounts of campaign cash for their candidates, and say a strong turnout for supporters at the state level can only help their parties' presidential candidates.

While neither the Democratic Governors’ Association (DGA) or the Republican Governors’ Association (RGA) can coordinate voter turnout efforts with presidential candidates, their efforts to increaser voter turnout from their respective parties is likely to have an impact on the Presidential election.

Governors often play a larger role in the lives of Americans than federal officials do since they deal with issues more close to home and unique to localities. Their close to home fundraising and grassroots efforts can, ultimately, have a large impact on federal elections.

While the Democrats currently have more governors, this is certainly not a clear indicator that they will take the presidential election as well. George Bush won in 2000 and again in 2004 with Republican governors in the majority, but Bill Clinton won in 1996 when GOP governors also had the edge.

Gubernatorial grassroots efforts may draw more people to the polls, but it is ultimately up to the presidential candidates to prove themselves to the American people in order to win votes.
