NAHB discusses Green Building with Western Governors Association
NAHB’s Construction Codes and Standards Committee Chairman Eric Borsting addressed the Western Governors Association in Denver in late July.

Borsting, vice president of operations for ConSol in California, emphasized NAHB’s dedication to energy efficiency by highlighting our annual Green Building Conference and discussing NAHB’s green building guidelines.

Borsting spoke about NAHB's long standing committment to energy efficient building, citing the creation of our green building committee long before the term was popular and noting that as a result of updated energy codes, new homes built today are much more energy efficient than older homes (new homes account for only about 2.5% of total U.S. energy consumption according to the Energy Information Administration).

Borsting told officials that policy to reduce residential energy consumption through increased efficiency requirements should contain homeowner education and incentives for existing homeowners to make more energy efficient choices and not solely regulate new home construction.

Kim Calomino, Vice President  of Technical and Regulatory Affairs for the Home Builders Association of Metro Denver, also attended and talked about the success of  the Built Green Colorado program.

The Western Governors Association is a bi-partisan organization comprised of 19 Western Governors. They address important policy and governance issues in the West, advance the role of the Western states in the federal system and develop policy and carry out programs in the area of natural resources, the environment, human services, economic development, and state governance.
