Florida HBA Wins Big at Mid-term Elections, Amendment 3 Passes Decisively
Over the course of the recent campaign, the Florida Home Builders Association, in coordination with NAHB's Political Operations department, worked successfully to pass Amendment 3 — a constitutional measure that sought broader public support of constitutional amendments by increasing the threshold of passage from 50% plus 1 to 60%. Passage prevents the Florida Constitution from being littered with costly and unnecessary amendments.

The amendment 3 was approved by 57.9% of Florida's voters.

Florida Hometown Democracy, a political action committee comprised primarily of anti-growth activists, has renewed its drive to secure the necessary signatures to get their initiative on the 2008 ballot. Successful passage of this ballot initiative would set a dangerous national precedent for “ballot box planning.” That is, if this bill passes it would require all comprehensive land use planning decisions be decided by the voters, a prospect that is certain to complicate and further burden the building/development process.
