NAHB Builds Relationships with Public Official Groups
This summer, NAHB played an active role in the annual meetings of three prominent public official groups, including the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Conference of State Legislators (NCSL).
The fiscal crisis facing state and local governments was the prevailing issue at each group's conference. Government revenue shortfalls are also of keen interest to the building industry, and NAHB assisted the organizations in finding alternative financing solutions by promoting the recently completed “Building for Tomorrow: Innovative Infrastructure Solutions” report as an example.
Through NAHB’s partnership with NACo, the federation's President Kent Conine addressed county officials at their general session and gave them real-world examples of alternative infrastructure finance methods. NAHB made a similar presentation to ALEC’s Commerce and Economic Development Task Force, focusing on public/private partnerships in infrastructure and emphasizing the need to seek alternatives to impact fees.
