RC Members Honored for Their Contributions to the CouncilDuring the Remodelors Council Chairman’s Dinner during the International Builders Show, 2004 Remodelors Council Chairman Doug Sutton, Sr., CGR, CAPS, honored Council members “who went above and beyond expectations for the advancement of the Remodelors Council and its plans.” Outstanding Service Award “Bill’s enthusiasm gave the group the jump start it needed to move ahead and become a viable partnership between the remodelers and its associates,” said Sutton. Part of Lazor’s work on the Committee was to design and complete a survey for all NAHB associate members to help focus the direction of the Committee and see how the NAHB’s associate members and Remodelors Council builder members can benefit from each other. “This committee grew in numbers as the year progressed and has a bright future in working forward to benefit the Remodelors Council and the industry,” said Sutton Distinguished Service Award ”As a past chairman who has continued to be involved in the Remodelors Council and its leadership, Bill continues to think of ways to move the Council and its programs forward,” said Sutton. This past year, Owens took it upon himself to plan, fund, transport and host a very successful fund raising event for the Remodelors Council Bryan Patchan Scholarship Fund during the Fall Board meeting. This event was held at Owens’ home and co-hosted by members of his family and his employees. The successful event raised more than $3,000 for the scholarship. This was in addition to his other duties as chairman of the Leadership Development Committee and other responsibilities on committees, plus his viable work on behalf of his local and state associations. “Bill is a man who continually serves the Council and industry whenever possible and for this reason and many more, this recognition is merited,” said Sutton. Recognizing Public Relations Savvy Members Also, these members, when not speaking with the press, contributed regularly to the Remodelors Council section in Nations Building News (NBN) Online. This year the Council had more than 20 members write articles for NBN Online, but these members stood out with the number and popularity of their articles. “The staff has called on them in a pinch and they have always produced. They are now known affectionately as the RC PR gurus,” said Sutton. During the Chairman's Dinner, Greg Miedema, CGR, CAPS, CGB of Dakota Builders in Tucson, AZ.; Erik Anderson, CGR, CAPS, GMB, CGB of Anderson-Moore Builders, Inc. in Winston-Salem, NC; and Michael Strong, CGR, CAPS of Brothers Strong in Houston, received a special award of recognition for their assistance in furthering the PR efforts of the Council.
May is National Home Remodeling MonthSpring is the most popular time to remodel one’s own castle. What better time of the year for National Home Remodeling Month. Many homeowners want to try their hand at remodeling their home themselves; this May help educate consumers on the importance of hiring a professional remodeler to safely make their house a home for a lifetime. The Remodelors Council has created a consumer campaign on How and When to Hire a Professional Remodeler. Throughout May, be sure to take advantage of the opportunities surrounding National Remodeling Month to help publicize the industry and emphasize to homeowners the importance of hiring qualified, professional remodelers. Contact your local council to find out about plans for the month and join this important campaign. The National Remodelors Council will have downloadable material to help promote National Remodeling Month including proclamations, public service announcements, press releases and articles in March. Consumer Ads Promoting RC Members Appear in Specialty MagazinesToday more people know about the benefits of hiring a professional Remodelors Council member to make their house a dream home thanks to the Remodelors Council's consumer ads appearing in a number of magazines in 2004. The Remodelors Council consumer ad campaign hit the magazine pages this year appearing in House Beautiful Home Building Winter 2004 and in House Beautiful Kitchens/Baths Winter 2004 editions with a circulation of 300,000. Also, the York County Builders Association Remodelors Council used the ads in their Home Show promotion guide from the local newspaper, a circulation of 100,000. Does your council have an opportunity to place consumer ads in local consumer publications? You can use these ads, customized with your council’s contact information. The Remodelors Council has an agreement with the designer that will allow your council, for a flat fee of $100, to customize the ads with your council name, council log, telephone number and web address. The fee also covers one disk, one color laser proof and FTP if desired to printer/publisher. It will require a minimum 72 hours advance notice and you will be billed directly.
