Total housing starts fell 10.2 percent in September 2007 to a 14-year low of 1.191 million, at a seasonally adjusted annual rate. Building permits dropped 7.3 percent from August to a 1.226 million unit pace in September. Single-family starts were down 1.7 percent for the month, while single-family permits declined 7.1 percent.
