Industry Recognition
The Custom Electronic Design Installation Association (CEDIA) Electronic Lifestyles® Awards honor excellence on technical and design/aesthetic aspects of technology installation projects in the residential electronic systems industry. Project categories include Best Home Theater, Best Media Room, Best Integrated Home, Best Special Project, Best Hidden Installation and Best Dressed System. Winners are selected by two panels of judges, a technical team made up of five CEDIA residential electronic systems contractor members, and a design team comprised of members from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).
The HTA Update will feature an award winner to highlight one of the projects in each issue. Each member involved in these projects — the architect, builder, interior designer and electronic systems contractor (ESC) — played an integral part to the finished product. As with any industry, developing partnerships is a clear way to expand your business by being able to offer more options to clients.

Feature Essay:
“Design a system that will blow our guests away,” was the order of this client who entertained frequently. Audio Video Design started with a blazingly bright 178” Stewart screen and about 7,000 watts of gut-kicking power to deliver it. Acoustics called for isolation of the room’s framing by decoupling the walls and ceiling from adjoining structures. After the room was separated, sound suppression and wall barriers were installed to keep the room’s four 18” THX subs from disturbing neighboring rooms.
The designer specified a plaster type dome ceiling — normally discouraged in any area when sound is important — so an innovative, mineral-based acoustic plaster-type product was located and installed to preserve the acoustics. Audio Video Design equalized the space and found the room’s response curves to be near perfect with over 130 decibels of reference quality sound.
Fifteen Cinematech Valentino Leather Theater Seats with motors placed on tiered flooring provide an ideal view for the massive screen. Six JBL Multi-polar flush-mount surround loudspeakers, JBL Synthesis LCR and four THX Ultra2 subs serve up spine-chilling surround sound and make this room the hit of the party.
