Stillman Knight Leads NAHB Multifamily Board of Trustees

Stillman D. Knight, Jr. — president and CEO of The Knight Company in Alexandria, Va., and a member of the Baldwin County Home Builders Association in Fairhope, Ala. — has been named the 2011 chair of the NAHB Multifamily Council.

Knight has spent his entire career in the multifamily housing industry, first working for the Mitchell Corporation and Aronov Realty Company, Inc. Through the years, he has been responsible for the construction of more than 14,900 housing units.

The Knight Company, founded in 1991, develops and manages apartment complexes in the Southeastern states.

Knight served as deputy assistant secretary for multifamily housing programs for the Federal Housing Administration from 2003 to 2005.

"After a decade of decline, the industry is facing the best demand demographics in 20 years,” Knight said. “However, there will be challenges in locating financing, especially as we face the possibility of major tax reform.”

Knight said his goal this year is to help members manage these financing challenges while maintaining NAHB Multifamily as the voice of the industry. “I want to involve more members in our activities, and provide more benefits to our industry," he said.

Ted Schlossman — a member of the Home Builders Association of Greater Fort Worth in Texas — was named vice chair of the NAHB Multifamily Board of Trustees.

NAHB’s Multifamily Council serves as the voice of the multifamily industry and represents the specific interests of builders, developers, owners and managers of all sizes and types of condominiums and rental apartments.
