"Indoors Out" on DIY

Episode: "Cozy Bar and Dining Room"

• June 29, 1:30 a.m. EDT/PDT
• June 29, 10:30 p.m. EDT/PDT
• July 4, 7:30 p.m. EDT/PDT
• July 5, 1:00 p.m. EDT/PDT

Nick, a construction manager, and Chelsea, a Washington Redskins cheerleader, have always wanted to install a separate bar and dining area in their home. They love to entertain and regularly have friends and fellow cheerleaders over for parties. But with little space inside, their home becomes crowed and uncomfortable very quickly. So they asked hosts Dean Marsico and Derek Stearns to transform their little patch of backyard into a functional bar and dining area. To start, Dean and Derek lay a flagstone paver patio with multiple sizes and an L-shaped design. They build a short masonry wall to further differentiate the space and create additional seating. For the bar, Dean and Derek use strong but lightweight fiber-reinforced concrete units that can be tailored to any design. They then veneer the bar with stone and top it off with a grill and kegerator. Trees, plants, intimate lighting and furniture finish off the space, making it the perfect cozy bar and dining room for this couple to cheer about.

Episode: "Great Plains Party Room"

• July 2, 11:30 a.m. EDT/PDT
• July 27, 4:00 p.m. EDT/PDT

Hosts and cousins Dean Marsico and Derek Stearns head to the Great Plains to create a rustic, outdoor party space. New parents Doug and Brooke Brant have their hands full with their first child, a brand new home and a group of friends about the size of their hometown's population. Since Doug and Brooke prefer to party outside in their prairie-viewing backyard, Dean and Derek help create an Okie-themed, barbeque-throwing, "down-home"-style party room. For the room's foundations, the two show off their masonry muscle by creating a gorgeous flagstone patio, while up top they build a red cedar pergola. To beef up the room's barbequing credentials they install a large kitchen island with a gas grill, side burner, refrigerator and bar seating. On the other side of the patio, Dean and Derek add another guest-gathering spot, a propane-fueled fire pit and seating area.

"Rock Solid" on HGTV

Episode: "Multiple Brick Platforms"

• July 5, 5:00 p.m. EDT/PDT
• July 6, 4:30 p.m. EDT/PDT

Anyone who has tried to put steps on a steep hillside knows that you need platforms in between those steps. Expert stone masons and hosts Dean Marsico and Derek Stearns show how this is done when they upgrade preexisting hillside granite steps by creating brand new platforms with canal street brick. First, they demo the existing dirt platforms — which is what most people have — and pour concrete footings. Over the footings — and as an artistic contrast to the granite — they set colorful canal street brick in a running bond pattern. As a finishing touch, they install outdoor lighting that transforms and illuminates a ramshackle step system into an elegant hillside walkway.
