Exhibitors Prepare More Than a Few Surprises for Builders’ Show

Exhibitors have more than a few surprises in store for builders attending the 2010 International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas next month as they continue to line up products geared to revving up sales and generating fresh excitement as the housing industry moves forward toward better times.

Following is an incomplete lineup of some of the goods builders and remodelers will find at the show, based on exhibitor announcements in early December:

Appliances

H-P Products (Booth C1252) will exhibit its complete line of central vacuum systems and unique hose management products, including Hide-A-Hose for whole-house cleaning, Vroom for high-traffic area quick cleaning and Spot for specific cleaning jobs in the house.

Wall and Floor Products

Ames Research (Booth C928) will exhibit its full line of quality elastomeric coatings and paints for roofs, walls and decks. All products are "green", non-toxic, free of VOCs (volatile organic chemicals), low-odor and environmentally friendly, as well as easy to apply and clean up. The company will showcase Blue Max, a high-strength elastomeric liquid rubber used for waterproofing hard-to-stop leaks on below-grade foundations, basement walls and other surfaces, making them impervious to water.

BuildBlock Building Systems, LLC (Booth N227) will showcase The BuildDeck System, a lightweight, stay-in-place Insulating Concrete Form (ICF) made of expanded polystyrene (EPS) and used to construct a solid monolithic insulating concrete floor and/or roof decking system. BuildDeck is perfect for site-cast or precast concrete floors, roofs, decks and walls for commercial, industrial and residential uses.

The Green Glue Company (Booth C2026) will feature its flagship Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound, which drastically reduces noise transfer from one room to the next, by as much as 90%, including low-frequency sounds that are normally resistant to soundproofing. The viscoelastic product comes in easy-to-dispense tubes, and it is non-toxic, environmentally responsible and contains no VOCs or hazardous odors.

Wahoo Decks (Booth C911) will introduce its brand new, unique waterproof deck joist alternative, DryJoistEZ. This product provides the structure of the deck, a 100% effective waterproof solution for the area below and a finished ceiling with traditional beadboard appearance — all in one step.

Construction Materials

Benjamin Obdyke Incorporated (Booth C824) will showcase its Hydrofilament Drainable Housewrap, the fastest draining housewrap on the market today. Tests show it drains moisture 80% faster than the next best-performing enhanced housewrap and delivers 140 times more drainage than standard housewrap.

DCI Products (Booth N1269) will exhibit SmartRidge I, the newest concept in ridge ventilation. At an amazing 100% efficiency rating, this New Ridge Vent allows hot attic heat and moisture to continually siphon 24/7 naturally and provides perfectly clean ridge lines with a no-lift look. Two-sided vents draw air across the vent itself, cutting down the amount of attic air actually exiting the attic space. The exhibitor will also have on hand a full line of under-shingle vents.

Delta Stone Products, Inc. (Booth C4289) will be showing architectural cut stone at precast prices. Window and door surrounds, columns and balusters, cap and sill, fireplace surrounds, hearths and mantles are all priced at what you would expect to pay for precast.

EcoStar® (Booth C5025) will exhibit its premium line of synthetic slate and shake roofing tiles. Manufactured with 80% post-industrial recycled materials, EcoStar tiles provide a durable, eco-friendly alternative to traditional slate and cedar shake roofing products.

Energy Alternatives (Booth C4978) will introduce the Greenward Ridge Vent, the next generation attic ridge vent material that harvests escaping ambient hot attic air and uses that thermal energy to preheat the water for the home.

Fasten Seal Products (Booth C2226) will showcase the only self-sealing furring nail that has ICC certification and meets IBC, IRC and CBC codes. The company will also display its new innovative self-sealing furring pad for siding, which simultaneously seals nail holes while creating a rain screen.

Icynene (Booth N2319) will exhibit its line of smart, responsible spray foam insulation solutions, including its latest product innovation — ICYNENE MD-R-200. This two-pound, medium-density spray foam is made with recycled content and is just one of Icynene’s 100% water-blown product options.

LASCO (Booth C5012) has launched a press for variable element sizes, the so-called PSP. This press is an absolute novelty, as most supplementary blocks don’t any longer need to be sawed using time-consuming and costly processes. They can now be pressed in varying lengths, heights and shapes. With its significantly better use of energy and raw materials, this production method has a high savings potential and is considered a trend-setter.

L.J. Smith Stair Systems (Booth N3031) will exhibit ProCurve — a custom curved stair system that is specifically design to be assembled on-site with the builder's own trade labor. ProCurve is offered in three progressive packs designed to correspond with the different stages of a typical construction project.

Spexo, LLC/ Pro-Fit Mouldings (Booth C2126) will introduce a newly patented and revolutionary crown moulding system that simply snaps onto brackets that are installed along the ceiling.

Stone Deck West Inc. (Booth C829) combines natural quarried stone with technology to create a structural panel capable of spanning 16 inches. The stone is laminated to a high strength composite to provide 4,000 pounds of structural strength per square foot. The high-strength, light-weight natural stone panel allows installation over joists for decking as well as pedestals for roof decks.

Doors, Cabinetry, Countertops and Windows

Clopay (Booth C2445) will unveil its new "faux wood" garage door options that replicate the beauty and character of stained natural wood, without the maintenance. Ultra-grain and the Canyon Ridge Collection deliver the realism and design flexibility of wood with the low-maintenance and energy-efficient benefits of insulated steel.

ClosetMaid (Booth C2775) will showcase its stylish, new wire finish, Satin Chrome ShelfTrack, offering the same affordable, reliable features of ClosetMaid’s white wire shelving and accessories, which gives builders another trend upgrade and profit opportunity for homes everywhere. Once installed, home owners can easily adjust ShelfTrack shelves and accessories as organization needs change.

The Folding Sliding Door Company (Booth C815) is bringing one of the world’s thinnest thermally broken aluminum folding sliding doors to the U.S. market. Able to cover openings of up to 10 feet high and 46 feet wide and offering a flush track as standard, this opens up existing spaces and seamlessly blends the outside with the inside.

The NIITECH CO., LTD. (Booth C925) will debut NII-Drive-MR, an automatic sliding door device designed to open and close doors with ease. NII-Drive-MR is easily installed, safe, quiet, durable and energy-efficient, at a very low price.

Phantom Screens (Booth C5263), North America’s leading provider of retractable screens, will showcase its large application Motorized Executive Screens with a low-profile 4-inch housing and its new line of DIY retractable screen doors. All other Phantom retractable screen solutions will also be on display.

Lumberjack Tools (Booth N2875) makes building rustic indoor and outdoor furniture simple, easy and quick. The tools are great for building railing, arbors, beds, tables, swings and more.

New Bedford Tool & Gauge Co. (Booth N2371) will introduce its SawGear measuring system, automatic length measuring for the saw. Contractors will learn how to put 30% more time on their clock with job site automation using SawGear.

The CPDS 1000 is an inexpensive, low-maintenance, portable constant pressure spray foam dispensing system that uses an internal air compressor to deliver higher foam yield at more than twice the speed as foam kits.
