Virtual Green Trade Show the First of Its Kind

The New Jersey Builders Association is hosting the inaugural Virtual Green Build Event — an online green building expo on Jan 12-14.
This is the first virtual trade show for green builders, remodelers and product manufacturers to be hosted by an HBA, and show organizers say it’s probably the first show of its kind for the industry.
Builders, remodelers and product manufacturers will interact online by using avatars — like those used in video games — and participants can choose among classes in five educational tracks on issues including marketing, remodeling and renovation, government policy and topics in commercial, industrial and residential construction.
Speakers will include Lisa Randall, head of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, and Michelle Desiderio, director of the NAHB Research Center's green building programs. So far, exhibitors from banking and other services and product manufacturers plan virtual booths for the event, including representatives of NAHBGreen.
Educational sessions include presentations on incentive programs, new green building science and brownfields development.
“Participation and interaction is done entirely through the convenience of a desktop computer, making ‘attendance’ both cost-effective and user-friendly,” said George Spais, director of codes and technical services for the HBA.
“What makes this event different from traditional webinars or online meetings is the use of a cutting-edge, interactive Web platform that creates a virtual tradeshow and expo,” he said.
This first-ever show of its kind is expected to attract attendees who otherwise would not have the time or resources to attend traditional trade shows.
In keeping with the green theme, the event is being promoted exclusively online via the Internet and social networking sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.
Space is limited and registration is restricted to the first 500 attendees, with a registration fee of $150.
“As we move forward as an industry and as a society, so too does the NJBA by adapting to and advancing emerging trends and technologies,” said NJBA President Michael Karmatz.
