ODL Dimmer Allows Tubular Skylights in Any Room of the House
In Booth N1015 at the 2010 International Builders’ Show, ODL, Inc. will be featuring two new and unique products aimed at enhancing the style and performance of any home — the Veranda External Grille for steel and fiberglass doors and a Solar Powered Dimmer for its popular Energy Star-qualified tubular skylight.
The Veranda External Grille doorglass features a wrought iron-inspired design and a hidden hinge and magnetic latch that enhances the sophisticated aesthetic of the design.
Veranda’s handcrafted micro-granite textured doorglass creates privacy while admitting natural light into the home. It is available in the following sizes: 22 by 64 inches, 8 by 64 inches, 22 by 80 inches, 8 by 80 inches, 22 by 48 inches and 8 by 48 inches.
The ODL Solar Powered Dimmer for Tubular Skylights allows consumers to control the amount of light entering a room through their tubular skylight.
The dimmer is the first in the industry to not require hard wiring, using solar energy instead, resulting in quicker and less expensive installation than competitive products.
Consumers can purchase a combination kit that includes the dimmer and a 10-inch tubular skylight.

A three-button remote control operates the shade dimmer from inside the home at the touch of a button. The shade dimmer controls the amount of natural light received into the home and is powered by an attached solar panel located in the skylight tube. The solar panel also powers two LED nightlights that the user can turn on and off with the remote. During the day, sunlight charges the four AA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries to power the dimmer and nightlight.
With its ability to reduce the use of electricity for residential lighting, the ODL Tubular Skylight was one of the first products in the industry to be designated as Green Approved by the NAHB Research Center.
“Tubular skylights are ideal for situations where there’s just not enough light and the home owner doesn’t want to install more traditional lighting systems,” said Randy Brown, ODL’s director of marketing. “Traditionally, tubular skylights were usually installed only in secondary rooms such as laundry rooms, closets and bathrooms, where receiving too much light is not an issue.”
With the new ODL Solar Powered Dimmer, consumers can install a tubular skylight wherever they desire — including nurseries, bedrooms and media rooms — since the amount of light received can be controlled day or night.
