50+ Housing Sessions Feature Forecast, State of Industry
The latest forecast on the 50+ housing market, design, sales and marketing and other key topics will be discussed in the more than a dozen education sessions on the 50+ market at the 2010 International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas next month.
All the sessions in the 50+ housing track will be held in North 261 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The sessions include:
Tuesday, Jan. 19
- “50+ Economic and Market Forecast”
1:30-3:00 p.m.
North 261
Attendees will get an overview of the economic conditions impacting the active adult market as well as short- and long-term forecasts.
Nationally recognized market researcher Tim Sullivan, of Sullivan Group Real Estate Advisors, will analyze current market conditions and look to the future. Paul Emrath, NAHB’s vice president of survey and housing policy research, will provide an industry forecast for 2010 and beyond.

- "50+ State of the Industry — Builder Forum"
10:00-11:30 a.m.

In this session, an expert panel of small and midsized builders who are persevering will look into their crystal balls and share insights on the best way to ride out the downturn. They will also provide useful tips on how to take advantage of opportunities that always seem to appear at the bottom of a business cycle.
Bob Karen of Symphony Development Group will be the moderator. Panelists include Brian Gentry, of Landed Gentry Development; Chris Harrison, of Robson Communities; Tim McCarthy, of Traditions of America; and Dave Smith, of DR Horton/Cambridge Homes.
- "55+ Housing by the Numbers"
1:30-2:30 p.m.

Experts will analyze the most recent consumer and builder surveys to examine emerging industry trends from NAHB and the MetLife Mature Market Institute.
The consumer survey examines current homes and communities and what 55+ consumers are looking for in the future, including design features, amenities, home finance and acceptance of green building and universal design. The builder survey also looks at builder perspectives on these same issues.
NAHB Chief Economist David Crowe and John Migliaccio, director of research for the MetLife Mature Market Institute, discuss similarities and differences between consumers and builders to provide attendees with a better understanding of their target market and the tools to build and design better homes and communities for the next wave of boomers.
