NAHB Tax Credit Resources Updated to Drive Home Sales

With the extension and expansion of the home buyer tax credit signed into law by President Obama on Nov. 6, NAHB updated its comprehensive online resources to help the federation promote the two tax credits — an extended $8,000 first-time home buyer tax credit and a new $6,500 repeat buyer tax credit — immediately to consumers.

The resources are posted at www.nahb.org/taxcreditmaterials and include materials to help members promote the credit to potential home buyers.

Members can download ready-to-use promotional materials such as a consumer flyer, radio spot scripts, Web banner ads, and print ads for consumer audiences from the NAHB Web site and most materials can be customized with the member’s or association’s contact information.

Talking points and a fact sheet are also available to help leaders and members of home builders associations talk to the local media about the two home buyer tax credits.

Members can direct consumers to the popular tax credit video, which was updated to reflect the new credits, and changes to the consumer brochure “Opportunity Knocks” will be completed and available online soon.

Most of the resources are accessible only to NAHB members and affiliated associations, and you must be logged in to www.nahb.org to view them.

NAHB’s Home Buyer Tax Credit Web Site Draws Six Million Visitors

All the promotional resources direct consumers to the tax credit Web site that was created by NAHB — www.federalhousingtaxcredit.com. The site was updated in December 2008 with information about the previous tax credit and since then has attracted more than six million visitors.

The site features detailed Q&As for both the $8,000 credit and the $6,500 credit, a list of home buyer resources and links to three social media sites — Twitter, Facebook and YouTube — that NAHB is using to educate consumers about the credits.

Interest in the Web site has grown rapidly. On the Monday following the Friday that the legislation was enacted, more than 70,000 people visited the Web site for the updated information, the highest single-day number of visits to date.
