Seminars on Professional Development Offered at IBS

IBS will feature several seminars on survival and professional development to help builders and NAHB members confront the difficult challenges of today's economic environment. All of the sessions will be held Wednesday, Jan. 21 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

  • “Exploring Career Opportunities”
    10:15-11:45 a.m.
    North 246

This session will offer tangible tools and advice for those seeking immediate and near-term employment opportunities. Experts will offer tips and resources for job-seekers who may be displaced from their jobs or who are interested in discovering a new career path.

Computers and support from NAHB staff will be available to help attendees with Web site searches and online resources.

NAHB’s Carlos Martin will discuss green building opportunities; Allen Kerschen, of Constructionjobs.com will discuss job-seeking resources; and Steve Kramer, of the Home Builders Institute, will discuss exploring other industry sectors.

  • “Surviving the Changing Economic Environment”
    1:15-2:45 p.m.
    South 222-223

Industry veterans who have been through previous housing downturns will provide practical advice and strategies for survival and innovative tips to strengthen your business.

Michael Sivage, of Sivage Homes, will lead Ken Klein, of Kleinco Construction Services, Bill Myrick, of ProBuild, Rod Luckhart, of Wells Fargo, and NAHB’s Jim Tobin in a panel discussion.

  • “Career Trends in Residential Construction”
    3:30-5:00 p.m.
    North 246

Industry professionals from Pulte, Centex and Richmond American Homes will discuss trends in hiring practices and career paths in residential construction. They will provide tips on how to stand out in a crowd when applying and interviewing for a job, and how to succeed as a new hire.

Computers and support from NAHB staff will be available to help attendees with Web site searches and online resources.

Professional Development Center Open During IBS

In addition to the seminars, the NAHB Professional Development Center will be open 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, Jan. 20-23 for members seeking information and resources to help them explore new career opportunities.

The center will be in the Central Concourse of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
