Chicago Builder George ‘Bud’ Arquilla Jr. Dies at 86
Chicago home builder George “Bud” Arquilla Jr. died on Nov. 13 at the age of 86.
Arquilla was the former CEO of Burnside Construction Co., a prominent home building company founded in 1911 by his father, George Arquilla Sr. His company built more than 28,000 homes and commercial buildings throughout the Chicago metropolitan area.
Along with his brother Robert — who was president of NAHB in 1977 and is currently a National Housing Endowment trustee — he owned and managed many other successful construction-related companies.
Arquilla was actively involved in the home building industry and served as the president of the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago in 1966 and 1967. He was an NAHB Life Director.
Arquilla was a founding director of the Olympia State Bank and also served as a director of the Pullman Bank for many years.
His son Bud said of his father, "I have been privileged to be able to work along side my father for 35 years. I never met a man who was more honest and fair, and who always showed integrity in all his dealings with his friends and employees."
He is survived by his wife, Joan; his son, George Arquilla III and daughter-in-law Janice; daughter, Amy Dean (William) and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Gist Arquilla.
