Trane Air Cleaner Reduces Surface Dust, Air Particles

New research and reports from scientists at Environmental Health & Engineering Inc. (EH&E), in collaboration with professors at the Harvard School of Public Health, verifies that adding the Trane CleanEffects high-efficiency whole-house air cleaner to the central heating and cooling systems can result in a healthier home.
To evaluate the ability of Trane CleanEffects to reduce the accumulation of settled dust and airborne particulate matter, researchers recruited five single-family homes in the Boston area for the study, which was conducted over four months in the winter and spring.
The study concluded that the Trane whole-house air filtration system reduces dust in the home by more than 50%.
By capturing fine particles as small as .1 microns, the product can also help home owners reduce the risk of asthma attack, stroke, heart attack, respiratory disease and other serious illnesses as part of an overall prevention plan, the researchers found.
Less dust may lead to reduced exposure to allergens such as fungal spores and toxins such as lead that are present in surface dust, helping to prevent allergy symptoms and asthma attacks.
Exposure to fine particulates that are easily inhaled and deposited deep into the lungs, impairs breathing and increases the risk of asthma attack, heart attack and other serious illnesses, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
Fine particles in the air originate from various outside sources — including fossil fuel burning in vehicles, power and manufacturing plants and fires. Inside the home, activities such as smoking and cooking are also sources.
“Home owners are aware of these issues and they are looking for solutions that work,” said Mark Hagan, Trane systems marketing manager for indoor air quality. He said that the research will help dealers explain to their customers the benefits of whole-house air filtration systems over room air cleaners.
“We’ve always known the Trane CleanEffects removes up to 99.98% of the dust from the air, but we wanted to test it further to learn more about removing dust on surfaces,” Hagan said. “For a dealer to be able to sit across the kitchen table with this third-party research and say that Train CleanEffects may mean dusting less and a healthier home — isn’t that every home owner’s dream?”
A white paper by EH&E concludes that whole-house air cleaners such as Trane CleanEffects may lower the risk of serious health problems and mortality caused by fine particle exposure by 34% compared with the use of a standard 1-inch filter.
Train CleanEffects is 100 times more effective than the standard 1-inch filter and performed best at removing particles down to .1 microns from the filtered air when compared to portable or other whole-house cleaners.
