New York Housing Leader Herb Warshavsky Dead at 85
Herbert Warshavsky, of Lawrence, N.Y., one of affordable housing’s outstanding leaders, passed away on Oct. 2 at the age of 85, the National Housing Conference's monthly newsletter, NHC@Work, reported recently.
As the executive director of the Associated Builders and Owners of Greater New York from 1975 to 1996, Warshavsky dedicated his efforts to promoting better business policies for the real estate industry and was responsible for many major initiatives.
Warshavsky was a leader in the real estate industry and an advocate of policies and programs on issues such as zoning, financing, insurance, building and the environment.
He was the president of HW Consulting & Expediting Corporation, a company that he founded to address the need for sustainable and affordable residential development, and he spent many years working with the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the New York State Division of Housing and the New York City Planning Department to achieve various housing goals.
A long-time supporter of the National Housing Conference and its New York affiliate, the New York Housing Conference, Warshavsky served on the NHC Board of Trustees from 1993 to 2007 and was made an Honorary Life Member in 2007.
Predeceased by his first wife, Ethel, he is survived by his wife, Rosa; two sons, Bruce and his wife, Judith, and Alan and his wife, Lynne; a daughter, Sharon Fleischer, and her husband, Scott; and six grandchildren, Jacob, Erika, Anna, Justin, Tyler and Dylan.
