Tennessee Builder Chooses NAHBGreen Certification

Akamai Construction has announced that it is pursuing National Green Building Certification for its 263-home Tennessee community of Creekstone Franklin, which will be comprised of 113 single-family homes, 42 town houses and 108 condominiums on 51 acres.
Administered by the NAHB Research Center, National Green Building Certification is the third-party verification and certification program for NAHBGreen.
Akami joins a growing roster of builders who have pledged to use the NAHB program to certify their homes, including Pulte Homes’ Del Webb Celebrate community in Fredericksburg, Va. and Silverstock’s Silver Woods community near Bethany Beach, Del.
“Anyone can say they build green homes,” said Michael Luzier, president and CEO of the Research Center. “Making a public commitment to have all homes certified gold under National Green Building Certification, as Akamai has done, substantiates that assertion.”
“We chose NAHB’s National Green Building Certification because it’s part of a national program with high-level requirements,” said Akamai Construction Principal Don Shepherd. “Additionally, the administrative costs and program implementation are reasonable and efficient, so we are able to put the savings back into the houses and provide further value to consumers.”
“Creekstone will provide home owners with not only a strong sense of green community living, but also confidence that theirs will be higher performing homes with increased durability and energy efficiency confirmed by independent, third-party verification,” Luzier said.
The design and construction of green homes adhere to high benchmarks of environmental considerations in addition to resource and energy efficiencies. The National Green Building Certification from NAHBGreen requires home-owner education and guidance on how to maintain high-performing homes at optimal levels.
The builders of Creekstone noted that homes receiving this certification are designed to lower costs, reduced maintenance and provide healthier, more comfortable living.
Other Creekstone certifications will include the U.S. Department of Energy’s Builders Challenge, the Energy Star & Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation and the EPA Energy Star Indoor Air Package; and Home Energy Concepts. Home buyers will receive a “report card” showing their estimated energy cost savings.
