Web Tool Finds Suitable Local Framing Products

A Web-based tool from Weyerhaeuser provides home builders and building material dealers with information on structural framing products suitable to the unique requirements of their geographic area.

Users of the manufacturer’s iLevel Performance Connection Tool enter their zip code and the tool provides a listing of appropriate products based on four key environmental conditions; seismic design category, maximum wind speed, snow load and average annual precipitation.

Because environmental conditions vary widely by location and have a significant impact on the selection of structural framing materials, the iLevel Performance Connection Tool provides a fast way to identify products that generally meet the local conditions.

The tool lists a wide range of appropriate framing products for floors, walls and roofs — including types of joists, beams, studs, sheathing, panels and wall braces, among others.

Builders can use the tool as a first-cut check on local requirements and to demonstrate to home buyers why certain materials are required, according to Dede Ryan, manager of integrated product strategies for iLevel by Weyerhaeuser.

After using the tool as a reference for their area, builders should consult their local code official to ensure that the identified materials meet the requirements of the specific piece of property on which they will be building.

Featured by Weyerhaeuser at PCBC earlier this summer, iLevel combines the company’s home-building products and services, distribution network and design software tools.

iLevel enables builders to reduce time, labor and call-backs; optimize structural frames to reduce waste; make custom designs and design changes easier and receive efficient, reliable delivery of products and services.

iLevel’s framing products and services include technical support and an extensive distribution network throughout North America.

Products and brands include Trus Joist Parallam parallel strand lumber (PSL), Trus Joist TimberStrand laminated strand lumber (LSL), TJI joists, Structurwood Edge and Structurwood Edge Gold floor panels, and iLevel Premium Joists.

Headquartered in Federal Way, Wash., Weyerhaeuser is a member of the National Council of the Housing Industry — The Leading Suppliers of NAHB.
