DEWALT Recalls Cordless Brad Nailers
On Aug. 5, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in cooperation with DEWALT Inc. of Towson, Md., issued a safety recall notice advising consumers to stop using the DEWALT DC608 Cordless Brad Nailer immediately.
According to the notice, the recall was issued because the nailer can operate when the safety is in the locked position or when the trigger is not pulled and the contact trip is depressed. Either situation could cause a nail to be ejected unexpectedly, which is considered a serious hazard.
The recall involves DC608 nailers with date codes 200728 through 200821.
To determine if a nailer is part of the recall, look for “DC608” printed on the right side of the magazine; the date code can be found by removing the battery pack and looking on the underside of the handle.
Units on which an “M” is stamped after the date code are not included in the recall.
The recall affects about 14,000 nailers that were sold at wholesale distributors and retailers from Oct. 2007 through May 2008 at a retail price of about $280.
To receive a free repair, consumers should contact DEWALT’s recall hotline at 866-220-1481 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. ET Monday through Friday for the location of the nearest service center.
