Florida Builder Receives ‘Hands That Work’ Award
Florida builder and developer William Paul has been awarded the Home Builders Institute's “Hands That Work” Award, which is presented periodically to those who have helped HBI achieve its mission of training people in the building trades and preparing them for careers in the home building industry.
Serving on the HBI Board of Trustees since 2003 and as its chairman in 2007, Paul has worked tirelessly with policymakers in his home state to promote and increase the number of the institute’s training programs.
Paul was instrumental in securing funding and support for Project CRAFT (Community, Restitution, and Apprenticeship-Focused Training), HBI’s congressionally-recognized training program for adjudicated youth. HBI has operated the program in Avon Park, Pembroke Pines, Tampa and Orlando, and has recently opened sites in Bristol, Dozier, St. Petersburg and Tallahassee.
Additionally, Paul gained support for HBI’s Project TRADE (Training, Restitution, Apprenticeship, Development, Employment) in St. Petersburg, which is operated in partnership with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office as the first trades training academy exclusively for women.
“It’s great when you get an award doing something that you love. I am truly honored,” said Paul. “I’m just proud that we’ve been able to help so many people turn their lives around while supporting the building industry’s recruitment initiatives.”
Paul has worked as a developer, builder and consultant throughout Florida for more than a quarter century on projects ranging from single-family and town home communities to office and retail centers.
