Kwikset Locks Can Be Re-Keyed in 30 Seconds

At the International Builders’ Show in February, Kwikset unveiled ground-breaking lock technology that provides contractors, remodelers and building managers with the ability to re-key locks in less than 30 seconds, eliminating the hassle and cost of replacing them.

With SmartKey, in three simple steps a potentially compromised or outdated key can be replaced with a new and secure key without removing the lock from the door.

SmartKey increases job site security by removing the complexity of a traditional pin and tumbler lock, and increases job site efficiency with fewer lock-related callbacks and production delays for the new construction market.

The same technology enables home owners to match multiple locks to one key, or replace a lost or loaned key with a new, secure key.

Delivering a high level of protection, SmartKey 890 deadbolts have received an ANSI Grade 1 rating from the Builders Hardware Manufacture Association; have improved resistance to drilling attacks; and have passed the most stringent Underwriters Laboratory lock picking standard.

SmartKey BumpGuard technology protects against lock-bumping attacks.

The locks are available in a wide range of the latest styles and finishes in handlesets, levers, knobs and deadbolts to match any décor.

Streamling the Distribution Process

Kwikset has also announced that it has used technology from Hyphen Solutions, Ltd. to develop a program to streamline the hardware distribution process, increase builder profit margins and improve the efficiency of distribution partners.

By limiting distribution channels and simplifying the purchasing process, the SmartSupply program offers builders an approved list of Kwikset “Platinum” partners who have access to greater purchasing efficiency, on-site delivery, installation services and an integrated computer inventory system.

Platinum partners enable builders to order from the field, process orders in real time, track invoices online and access a detailed audit trail.

Builders participating in the program benefit from flat pricing, fewer inventory errors, more control over the supply chain process and other operational efficiencies.

The Kwikset brand is manufactured by the Black & Decker Hardware and Home Improvement Group, which is a member of the National Council of the Housing Industry — The Leading Suppliers of NAHB.
