"Rock Solid" on DIY
Episode: "Interlocking Block Wall"

• March 29, 11:30 a.m. ET/PT

Expert stone masons and hosts Dean Marsico and Derek Stearns love stone. But stone just isn't practical for every project — like the 80-foot retaining wall featured this week. That would entail a lot of stone, mortar and time. Dean and Derek's solution is to use an interlocking concrete-block system to build a wall that doesn't sacrifice style for substance — and that goes up in a fraction of the time it would take to complete a similar wall with stone. Also part of this project, Dean and Derek replace the existing stairs and a crumbling stone wall with new steps and a retaining wall that tapers from the house down to street level.
"Assembly Required" on DIY
Episode: "Modern Modular Home"
|
• March 24, 10:30 p.m. ET/PT
• March 25, 2:30 a.m. ET/PT |
|
Who says chic modern homes are only for big spenders? In this episode of Assembly Required, a team of architects designs, prefabricates and builds a prototype for an affordable, modern modular home. Minnesota residents Pete and Lindsey watch in anticipation as the factory-made, contemporary home shell arrives by flatbed and comes together in just one day.
"I Want That" on Fine Living
Episode: "Pleated Glass Walls, Chimney Pots, Ultimate Kitchen Blender"
|
• March 27, 10:00 a.m. ET/PT |
|
Connecting the indoors and outdoors takes on a whole new meaning with Nana Walls — accordion pleated walls of glass. For a design that's over the top, consider outfitting a home with a chimney pot — clay sculpture that comes in all shapes and sizes, including dragons and columns, and sits atop chimneys and improves draft and design. Ever heard of a blender that cooks? Check out a new blender with a blade that rotates at 240 miles per hour, creating enough heat to turn raw ingredients into cooked soup. Make beautiful music with furniture that doubles as a xylophone, allowing residents to hammer out a tune while rocking on a porch swing.
