HBAs: Challenge/Build/Grow Proposals Due by March 28

The National Housing Endowment, the philanthropic arm of NAHB, is seeking proposals from state and local home builders associations through its Challenge/Build/Grow (CBG) matching funds initiative.

The endowment's board of trustees will award HBAs $25,000 through the grant initiative this year.

Through the program, state and local associations are eligible for matching challenge grants up to $5,000.

Since the program was launched in 2001, more than $150,000 has been awarded to associations to support local initiatives on education, land use, labor shortages/worker training and more, and to help build new partnerships at the state and local levels.

HBAs are encouraged to find opportunities for new partnerships in their communities to assist local programs targeting issues of importance to the industry — including job training, image building and educational and scholarship support.

“Building homes for the nation is too important a priority to neglect the education and training that will be needed to support the residential construction industry,” said Gary Garczynski, endowment chairman and 2002 NAHB president. “Through the Challenge/Build/Grow Matching Grant Initiative as well as other grants, the endowment is answering the call by meeting the industry's long-term challenges with bold thinking and action.”

HBA Proposals Must Be Received by March 28.

Applications and guidelines can be downloaded from the endowment Web site at www.nationalhousingendowment.org/CBG.htm.

HBAs requesting grants are encouraged to seek advice on their proposals from the endowment staff well in advance of the deadline.

HBAs can e-mail their proposals to the endowment at nhe@nahb.com.
