Green Building Award Entries Deadline Jan. 30

The deadline is looming for builders and remodelers seeking national recognition for their green building projects. Applications for the 2008 NAHB National Green Building Awards close on Jan. 30.

Each year, NAHB recognizes individuals, companies and organizations for excellence in residential green design and construction practices and for green building program and advocacy efforts.

Honoring achievements in green building, the NAHB National Green Building Awards will be presented at a gala dinner during the NAHB National Green Building Conference, which will take place in New Orleans on May 11-13.

Building entries can be scored to the green home certification system of the applicant's choice. However, all single-family homes must also be scored to the NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines to facilitate the judges' comparison tasks.

Award categories include:

  • Green Building Program of the Year
  • Advocate of the Year
  • Outstanding Green Marketing Program
  • Green Project of the Year — Single Family
  • Green Project of the Year — Multifamily
  • Green Project of the Year — Development
  • Green Project of the Year — Remodeling

The awards are limited to NAHB members. All award applications must be completed online. The application includes instructions for including photographs and other graphics.

The NAHB National Green Building Conference is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2008.  Attendance at the annual event is expected to be nearly double the previous 1,100 record, which was set last year in St. Louis. Exhibit booths are selling briskly, according to account representative Chris Hood. Potential exhibitors can e-mail Hood at NAHB, or call him at 800-368-5242 x8684.

Additional information about the awards program is available from green building program manager Emily English, x8366.
