Carville, Matalin to Give Keynote Address at Builders' Show

Carville

 Matalin

James Carville and Mary Matalin, the renowned husband and wife political analysts and consultants, will be the keynote speakers at the 2008 International Builders’ Show in Orlando next month.

Matalin and Carville will discuss politics and parenting ― and give their candid assessments of the political field first-hand ― during their keynote address, “All’s Fair: Love, War and Politics,” at the Grand Opening Ceremonies beginning at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 in South Hall of the Orange County Convention Center.

Matalin is a former assistant to President George W. Bush and counselor to Vice President Dick Cheney. Carville helped propel Bill Clinton to the presidency in 1992 by managing his campaign and "war room."

Henderson

The Grand Opening Ceremonies also will feature tributes to home builders from Disney, Universal Studies and Sea World to celebrate NAHB’s success in Orlando. The production will end with a huge salute to Las Vegas, the IBS destination in 2009.

Florence Henderson, the multitalented actress, performer, recording artist and Broadway veteran who is known throughout the world as the mom to “The Brady Bunch,” will host the Grand Opening Ceremonies.

Acres of Exhibits

More than 1,800  exhibitors will display everything from cutting-edge appliances to heavy-duty tools during IBS. The exhibition encompasses more than a million net square feet of displays, making it the largest and most impressive annual exhibition of housing-related products in the world.

The exhibit floor also includes nextBUILD™, a special section featuring leading-edge home technologies to give buyers the sophisticated homes they want and give builders an edge in the market.

Strategies for Success and Survival

With the housing market striving to emerge from one of the most challenging downturns in recent memory, education is also crucial.

The educational focus at the show will be on “Strategies for Success and Survival” and include educational tracks that emphasize smart ways to survive and thrive as the housing market regroups.

In addition to expanded educational offerings, here are some important features that will help make your IBS experience even more valuable:

  • A panel of veteran builders who have experienced — and survived ― the ups and downs of the housing market for many years will discuss, “Weathering the Economic Storm” at 9:30 a.m. on  Thursday, Feb. 14.

  • A featured speaker will open each day of the show to provide insight into specific industry concerns.

On Thursday, Feb. 14, William McDonough of William McDonough + Partners will discuss “The Promise of Cradle to Cradle Design: Sustainable Architecture for the 21st Century.”

Mark Jarvis, the chief marketing officer at Dell computers, will be the Friday, Feb. 15 featured speaker. His topic will be “Eye on the Prize: Customers as Advocates.”

On Saturday, Feb. 16, Ken Schmidt, formerly of the Harley-Davidson Motor Company, will address branding and marketing as he tells the audience how to “Make Some Noise.”

  • On “Green Day,” Feb. 14, NAHB will introduce the Certified Green Professional designation for builders and remodelers and launch the NAHB National Green Building Program. And of course, the very latest green building products will be featured on the exhibition floor throughout the IBS.

  • Builders can register for “Executive Edge: Leadership in Challenging Times,” a focused executive level program that will be held the day before the IBS opens.

Celebrating Silver

The New American Home celebrates its 25th anniversary at the 2008 IBS. Sponsored by NCHI — The Leading Suppliers of NAHB, and Builder magazine, it showcases materials, designs and construction techniques that can be adapted for use in homes in any price range in any housing market.

Located in a golf course community near the Orlando International Airport, the 6,725-square-foot house will feature concrete construction and extensive use of outdoor living spaces. It is the first house built in the exclusive Water’s Edge section of Lake Nona, a gated, 11-lot parcel reserved for custom-built waterfront homes.
