34 Centex ‘Build Your Future’ Scholars Announced

The National Housing Endowment, the philanthropic arm of NAHB, recently announced the 34 winners of the 2007 to 2008 academic year Centex “Build Your Future” Scholarship fund.

The “Build Your Future” Scholarship fund provides tuition assistance to undergraduate and graduate students nationwide who are pursuing careers in the building industry. Centex Corporation created the scholarship fund to help address the pressing need for educating and training managers.

This year, 34 students were awarded $51,000 in scholarships. They are:

  • Ana Lisa Alvarado, a sophomore majoring in industrial technology at Texas State University-San Marcos, received $1,000.

  • James Anderson, a sophomore majoring in construction management at Eastern Washington University, was awarded $1,000.

  • Adam Baer, a junior studying construction management at Illinois State University, received $1,000.

  • Ashley Bastian, a junior majoring in technology management/construction at Utah Valley State College, was awarded $1,500.

  • Angela Beck, a junior studying construction management at Everglades University, received $1,500.

  • Joseph Bindas, a dual major junior studying construction systems management and architecture at Ohio State University, received $2,500.

  • Nicholas Bombardier, a freshman studying building construction trades at Texas State Technical College, was awarded $500.

  • Andes Boral, a sophomore majoring in civil engineering at Florida Gulf Coast University, received $1,500.

  • David Citarella, a freshman studying building construction management at the University of North Florida, was awarded $1,500.

  • Brian Dilley, a sophomore majoring in construction management at Brigham Young University-Provo, was awarded $1,000.

  • Victor Doroghian, a senior majoring in construction management at Brigham Young University-Provo, was awarded $2,500.

  • Christian Eberhardt, a junior majoring in construction management technology at the University of Maine, was awarded $500.

  • Phyllis Ferguson, a senior studying construction management engineering at San Diego State University, was awarded $2,500.

  • Dallin Fogle, a junior studying architectural technology at Brigham Young University-Idaho, received $500.

  • Karina Gallegos, a senior majoring in construction management at the Montgomery College, was awarded $1,000.

  • Josh Goodall, a senior studying civil engineering at Oregon State University, received $1,000.

  • Nicholas Herring, a junior majoring in building construction at the University of Florida, received $1,000.

  • Kevin Hudson, a junior studying building science at Auburn University, received $1,000.

  • Ryan Klinicki, a junior studying architectural engineering at Penn State, was awarded $1,000.

  • Steven Knowles, a senior majoring in construction management at Brigham Young University-Idaho, received $1,500.

  • Brian Lord, a senior majoring in technology management and specializing in building and construction management at Utah Valley State College, received $500.

  • Peter Martinez III, a sophomore studying construction management at Colorado State University, was awarded $2,500.

  • Stephan Medina, a sophomore majoring in architecture at the University of Oregon, was awarded $2,500.

  • Donovan Minnis, a senior studying construction management technology at Weber State University, received $500.

  • Jesse O’Rourke, a senior majoring in construction management at California State University-Chico, was awarded $1,500.

  • Nilesh Panchal, a graduate student studying construction management at Texas A&M University, was awarded $2,500.

  • Tyson Reimer, a senior majoring in construction Management at John Brown University, received $2,500.

  • Collin Riley, a senior studying construction management at East Carolina University, received $2,500.

  • Jason Smith, a senior majoring in construction management technology at the South Polytechnic State University, was awarded $1,500.

  • Jeffrey Smith, a senior studying construction management at East Carolina University, received $1,500.

  • James Thiesen, a junior majoring in architectural construction technology at Minnesota State University-Moorhead, was awarded $1,500.

  • James Thomas, a senior majoring in construction management at Boise State University, received $2,500.

  • Kevin Whitaker, a senior majoring in Central Michigan University, was awarded $2,500.

  • Paul Yatch, a junior majoring in construction management at Central Michigan University, received $1,000.


“Centex is proud of its efforts to remain at the forefront of builders providing educational opportunities to students pursing careers in the home building industry,” said Monigo Saygbay-Hallie, director of human resources for Centex Homes. “We take seriously our obligation to give back to the industry and are proud to work with the National Housing Endowment on this effort.”

Since the scholarship was founded in 1999, Centex has awarded more than $145,000 to 91 exemplary students attending residential construction programs across the country.

More Endowment Scholarship Programs

The endowment administers 12 scholarships and awards more than $350,000 each year to students pursuing careers in residential construction and related fields.
