Orlando HBA Redecorates Guest Room in Ronald McDonald House

The guest room in the Orlando Ronald McDonald House after it was redecorated by Mid-Florida Home Builders Foundation, Kay Green Design and other volunteers.

Orlando, Fla. businesses Kay Green Design, Inc., Park Square Homes and Canin Associates led a recent effort by the Mid-Florida Home Builders Foundation, the HBA’s philanthropic arm, to redecorate a guest room in the Orlando Ronald McDonald House for families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at Orlando-area hospitals.

The guest room before it was redecorated.

The foundation donated $25,000 to redecorate the “Home Is Where You Hang Your Hat” themed room.

HBA design council members Ashley Jennings of Kay Green Design, Susan Varga of Canin Associates and Darlene Johnson of Park Square Homes, directed the redesign and selected material and furniture for the guest room make-over.

Several HBA members and local vendors contributed time, material, labor and funds to the project.

Kay Green Design redesigned the room in tranquil sage and sea foam colors to create a warm, inviting feeling for guests.

Renovation began by clearing the room of old furniture, removing its beach-themed wallpaper and painting the white walls with shades of cream.

Castle North Plumbing and Lighting Décor installed new, donated lighting including a state-of-the-art ceiling fan.

The bathroom before it was redecorated, above, and after, right.

Kay Green Design completed the interiors with comfortable fabric window treatments, custom bedding, chocolate-hued wood furnishings and contemporary artwork. Custom-built shelving towers were used as bedside tables because the room could not accommodate a full-sized bed stand. The renovation also included a dresser and matching armoire because the room does not have closets.

The floral wallpaper in the bathroom was replaced with neutral tone-on-tone wallpaper. New bathroom accessories that highlighted the accent colors in the bedroom also were installed.

As a final touch, the bedroom has a custom-made headboard ― shaped like a house and painted with the HBA’s logo. The designers also hung a signed photograph of all the HBA contributors to the project in the room.

These members from the Mid-Florida Home Builders Association volunteered to redecorate a guest room in the Orlando Ronald McDonald House.
