Free Fall Prevention Seminar Available to Builders

A newly-developed four-hour seminar from NAHB and the NAHB Research Center focuses on fall protection and prevention at residential construction sites. Falls from elevations account for one third of all construction deaths, making falls the leading cause of fatalities in the construction industry, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Targeted to construction superintendents and crew members, the OSHA-funded seminars provide training on the prevention of construction site falls in both English and Spanish. Topics covered include key fall prevention measures and how to safely use equipment. Participants will be instructed on how to implement a fall protection plan and use guardrails, personal fall arrest systems, aerial and fork-lift baskets and other safety equipment.

Seminars already scheduled between May and September are being hosted by home builders associations in Illinois, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin. Click here for the schedule and sponsor information.

To register for a seminar, click here.

HBAs that are interested in providing this valuable educational opportunity to their members by sponsoring a seminar can find additional information and a request form by clicking here. As many as 40 individual seminars are available through September.

Sponsoring HBAs receive an on-site instructor at no charge, funds toward room and audio-visual rental, promotion on the NAHB Research Center and NAHB Web sites and promotional materials, including a press release and flyer art.

Seminar participants also receive free copies of the new NAHB-OSHA Fall Protection Handbook and Fall Protection Video DVD, which were produced in English and Spanish. To purchase these resources from BuilderBooks.com, click on the titles.

For more information about the fall protection seminars or other safety resources available from NAHB, e-mail Rob Matuga, or call him at 800-368-5242 x8507.

Prevent Construction-Related Falls

The “Fall Protection Video,” available through BuilderBooks.com, can be used to train workers — in both English and Spanish — how to safely perform some of the most hazardous jobs in home building.

The video demonstrates safe work practices and equipment use that meet OSHA’s requirements. To view or purchase this DVD online, click here, or call 800-223-2665.
