Centex ‘Build Your Future’ Scholars Announced

The National Housing Endowment, the philanthropic arm of NAHB, recently announced the 25 winners of the 2006-2007 academic year Centex “Build Your Future” Scholarship fund.

The “Build Your Future” Scholarship fund, founded in 1999, provides tuition assistance to undergraduate students nationwide pursuing a career in the building industry. Centex Corporation created the scholarship fund to help address the pressing need for educating and training managers.

This year, 25 students were awarded $45,000 in scholarships. They are:

  • Kenneth Adams, a junior majoring in construction management at Eastern Michigan University, received $2,000.

  • Ashley Bastian, a sophomore majoring in construction management at Utah Valley State College, was awarded $2,000.

  • Evan Bingham, a Brigham Young University junior studying construction management, received $2,000.

  • Jacob Bintliff, a sophomore in construction management at Colorado State University, was awarded $2,000.

  • Chadd Bolding, a senior at Texas A&M studying construction science, received $2,000.

  • Devin Bunnell, a junior studying Technology at Utah Valley State College, was awarded $500.

  • Ben Copenhaver, a junior majoring in construction management at the Pennsylvania College of Technology, received $2,000.

  • Bradley Debnar, a sophomore at Western Carolina University studying construction management, received $3,000.

  • Jennifer Line, a senior majoring in architecture at Pennsylvania State University, was awarded $1,000.

  • Brian Lord, a sophomore majoring in technology management at Utah Valley State College, received $2,500.

  • Keith Mack, a Purdue University junior majoring in building construction management, received $500.

  • Kevin McDonald, a freshman at Piedmont Technical College studying building construction technology, received $4,000.

  • Jamie Metzinger, a sophomore studying building construction management at Purdue University, received $2,000.

  • Matthew Newman, junior majoring in construction management at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, was awarded $1,000.

  • Conor O'Byrne, a University of Colorado at Boulder junior studying civil engineering, received $1,500.

  • Tobey Orme, a junior majoring in construction management at Brigham Young University-Idaho, received $1,500.

  • Kevin Pruzinsky, a junior at Louisiana State University studying construction management, received $2,500.

  • Ryan Ramey, a Ferris State University junior studying construction management, was awarded $2,000.

  • Desiree Reyes, a junior Marketing major at the University of Houston, received $4,000.

  • Steven Schaeffer, a sophomore majoring in construction management at Colorado State University, received $1,000.

  • Colin Seneca, a University of Alaska Anchorage junior studying construction management, received $2,000.

  • Deepak Sharma, a freshman at the University of Florida majoring in building construction, was awarded $500.

  • Matthias Spurgeon, a junior studying construction management at Brigham Young University, received $1,500.

  • James Thomas, a Boise State University junior majoring in construction management, was awarded $500.

  • William Webb, a Utah Valley State College sophomore majoring in technical management received $1,500.


“Centex continues its efforts to remain at the forefront of builders providing educational opportunities to students pursing careers in the home building industry,” said Steve Nellis, vice president of recruiting for Centex Homes. “We take seriously our obligation to give back to the industry and are proud to work with the National Housing Endowment on this effort and are committed to its continued success.”

Since the scholarship was founded in 1999, Centex has awarded more than $100,000 to 77 exemplary students attending residential construction programs across the country.
