Women’s Council Scholarship Winners Announced

Three women majoring in construction management are the recipients of the 2006-2007 NAHB Women’s Council/National Housing Endowment “Strategies for Success” Scholarship. The National Housing Endowment is the philanthropic arm of NAHB.

The scholarship winners are:

  • Sarah Semaan, a senior majoring in industrial and construction technology management at Central Michigan University. She was awarded $1,000.

  • Lisa Glessing, a junior construction management major at Washington State University. She was awarded $500.

  • Nicole Twaddell, a junior majoring in construction management at the University of Washington. She was awarded $500.

“We received a record 40 applications this year, making this a very difficult decision,” said Nicole Goolsby, chair of NAHB’s Women’s Council. “We are confident that these women will represent the future of our industry well. Our only regret is that more money was not available to the many deserving candidates.”

“This scholarship fund is truly in keeping with our mission,” said Gary Garczynski, chair of the endowment and 2002 NAHB president.  “The endowment is working to increase the number of professionals entering residential construction, and this scholarship, along with other programs we sponsor, is leading the effort to reward and encourage the best and brightest to choose this field.”

The scholarship selection committee included Diane Willenbring, Women’s Council vice chair, St. Cloud, Minn.; Jean Miller, Women’s Council past president (1997), Crestview Hills, Ky.; Sheri Mitcheltree, West Coast Region E trustee and Women’s Council Scholarship Committee member, Fresno, Calif.; and Troy Patterson, of the endowment.

Established in 2001, the NAHB Women’s Council/National Housing Endowment “Strategies for Success” Scholarship provides financial support to students pursuing housing or housing-related careers. The scholarship is funded by Women’s Council members and corporate donors.
