NAHB, Fannie Mae Announce Safety Award for Excellence
A new awards program — Safety Award For Excellence (SAFE) — will recognize home builders who develop outstanding work-site safety programs. Fannie Mae is sponsoring the award in support of NAHB's efforts to promote the use of best practices in the housing industry.
“This new national awards program has been established to recognize the achievements of builders and trade contractors who excel at safety performance and have developed and implemented high-quality construction safety programs,” said NAHB President David Pressly. “NAHB is a national leader in construction safety, and this award emphasizes our commitment to a safe work environment.”
SAFE will also honor those government officials and NAHB-affiliated associations who have made unique and important contributions in advancing safety in the home building industry.
The SAFE program is open to all NAHB member companies that are in good standing and build residential homes or town homes using light construction methods, as well as NAHB-affiliated associations, and federal or state plan OSHA officials who have been nominated by an NAHB member or association that is in good standing. Awards will be made in a variety of residential construction categories.
“The SAFE program will closely examine each candidate’s commitment to construction safety and health in the home building industry,” said Vernon Pottenger, chair of NAHB’s Construction Safety and Health Committee and a builder from Beaufort, S.C. “We believe this award will foster a culture of injury prevention in the home building industry and promote safe working conditions.”
Award winners will be recognized during the 2007 International Builders’ Show in Orlando, Fla. Winners will receive an engraved award, as well as coverage in Nation’s Building News Online.
