Habitat Builds First Concrete Home in Canada

The first concrete Habitat house in Canada and the first in North America to have Ductal® countertops was built this spring by volunteers, including 40 Lafarge construction materials employees from Calgary, Alberta and a neighboring cement plant at Exshaw.

“This is a day to celebrate a life-long dream for David and Katherine Milum and their three children, a day to celebrate the six-year partnership of Lafarge and Calgary Habitat and a day to celebrate the work of hard-working and dedicated volunteers,” said Diane Read, manager of public affairs for Habitat for Humanity — Calgary.

Accepting the keys to the new home, David Milum said that his family was not only looking forward to living in a safe, decent and affordable home, but also would be comparing heating bills with their new neighbors this winter, since concrete homes are known for their terrific insulating properties.
