| Sandy Dunn, a second-generation home builder from Point Pleasant, W.Va. and NAHB vice president/secretary, knows the importance of having a vibrant and growing industry association membership. She has been an active Spike Club member ever since joining her local association in 1974.
“The Spike Club program is crucial to not only growing membership, but also building community within the local association. This is really what makes a local association work,” says Dunn, president of BJ Builders, Inc. and a member of the Home Builders Association of Greater Charleston.
Dunn is also a Spike Club member with more than 100 credits.
“The friendly competition of earning credits creates camaraderie between members, as does the natural connection that forms when someone is recruited and ushered into the membership by a Spike Club member,” notes Dunn. “These connections continue to benefit everyone by fostering networking opportunities and encouraging business among members. It’s really a win-win situation,” she adds.
As an NAHB member who has been active at the local, state and national level throughout her career, Dunn knows firsthand the importance of maintaining the grassroots strength of the entire federation.
“The Spike Club program naturally focuses the member’s attention on the health and strength of our association, and by participating in recruiting and retaining members, Spikes have a stake in the association’s well being,” says Dunn.
“This commitment is invaluable to the long-term vitality of the entire federation,” Dunn continues. “I extend my thanks to all our Spikes and encourage them to continue their significant contributions to NAHB.”
November Is Spike Appreciation Month
November is Spike Appreciation Month and time to make a special effort to thank Spikes for their contributions to NAHB and your local home builders association.
Spikes are the association recruiters, ambassadors, mentors and spokespeople. Each member they recruit or retain adds to NAHB’s strength in numbers, offers more rewarding networking opportunities and better represents our industry interests to locally and nationally elected officials — all factors that are vital to sustaining a healthy association and better serving the home building industry at all levels.
Resources for planning or conducting events and activities for Spike Appreciation Month are available in the 3-in-1 Membership Planning Kit and at www.nahb.org/spikeappreciation.
