PATH New Housing Technology Inventory Redesigned

The Technology Inventory of the Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing (PATH) has been redesigned to provide builders, trade contractors and remodelers with a more effective format for accessing comprehensive information on more than 160 innovative construction products and practices, the NAHB Research Center announced last week.

Included in the site’s overhaul are enhanced search capabilities and support for streaming media.

Created by PATH and administered by the NAHB Research Center, the Technology Inventory was created to accelerate industry and public awareness and acceptance of new technologies that can improve housing performance.

The six-month redesign included focus groups and interviews among builders and remodelers to assess the types of enhancements that would be most beneficial to them.

As a result of this research, information on codes, product installation, ease of implementation, cost and builder testimonials has been included.

Improvements in the functionality of the inventory include increased compatibility with major search engines, database-driven content for more frequent updating, and support for new media sources such as detailed CAD drawings and streaming audio and video. Future enhancements will also include distributor listings and broadband capability.

Technical experts at PATH and the Research Center actively seek technology information from researchers, trade associations and manufacturers for inclusion in the inventory. Industry groups and individuals can also make submissions, which are reviewed for their technical and performance merits and market potential; the evaluation includes no formal testing.

PATH selects technologies from the inventory for field evaluations and site demonstrations.

To submit a technology for consideration, e-mail Mallika Kishen, or call her at 301-430-6234.
