Related Companies Founder to Be Honored

The National Housing Symposium held by the National Housing Conference (NHC) next month in Washington, D.C. will focus on how to mobilize support for affordable housing through public housing campaigns.

Cosponsored by the Campaign for Affordable Housing, the symposium will examine key ways for reaching the public and the media with messages related to affordable housing and will highlight several “best practice” examples of successful education campaigns centered on housing activities.

On the eve of the symposium, NHC will honor Stephen M. Ross, chairman and CEO of The Related Companies and chairman and founder of CharterMac as the “2005 Housing Person of the Year” in recognition of his outstanding commitment to and leadership in affordable housing and community development.

Formed by Ross in 1972, The Related Companies oversees a real estate portfolio valued at more than $12 billion. CharterMac, through its subsidiaries, is one of the nation’s leading full-service real estate finance companies, with strong focus on multifamily financing.

Nearly 1,000 industry leaders are expected to attend the annual awards ceremony and dinner, which will be held on June 15 at the National Building Museum.

The symposium will be held on the morning of June 16 at the Jurys Washington Hotel.
