Greystone Gives Million-Dollar Gift to Endowment
The National Housing Endowment, the philanthropic arm of NAHB, last week received a $1 million gift from Greystone & Co., a leading private investment and real estate family of companies active in housing and healthcare financing. The gift was given during the dedication of the Greystone Conference Room at the National Housing Center on May 4.
“The important work of the National Housing Endowment is made possible by the generosity of donors like Greystone & Co.,” said Gary Garczynski, 2005 Chairman of the National Housing Endowment and former NAHB president. “Greystone has a steadfast commitment to philanthropy and their outstanding gift will support the endowment’s ongoing efforts to revitalize the building industry’s labor pool and will aid the endowment’s efforts to assist colleges and universities in the development of housing-related curricula and activities.”
Created in 1987, the endowment works in partnership with state and local home builders associations, the NAHB Research Center and the Home Builders Institute, to promote building industry education and training, support research to develop new products and techniques that improve the affordability and quality of American housing and recognize achievements in housing. The endowment also provides a permanent source of funds to address long-term industry concerns. It has awarded $5.3 million in grants to housing-related programs and projects nationwide since it was founded in 1987.
“NAHB and the endowment, an assembly of individuals who generously give their time and are firmly committed to providing quality affordable housing, truly represent the nobility that humanity can achieve when we come together in the spirit of sharing,” said Stephen Rosenberg, founder, president and chief executive officer of Greystone.
Rosenberg will be the endowment’s newest Life Trustee — seven-figure donors whose leadership and commitment have enabled the endowment to surpass its initial fundraising goal of $10 million set in 2002 and expand it to $25 million during the next three years.
In addition to the Life Trustees, the endowment is led by a growing group of six-figure donors, known as Founding Advocates, who provide the endowment’s core support.

Help Tsunami Survivors Rebuild Their Homes
In response to what will be an overwhelming need for permanent shelter following the devastating earthquake and tsunami disaster in South Asia last year, NAHB and the National Housing Endowment have established the Home Builders Care/National Housing Endowment-Tsunami Shelter Fund to raise desperately needed funds.
With an initial donation of $250,000, designated by the NAHB Board of Directors at the International Builders’ Show, the fund is being directed to rebuilding efforts that provide temporary and permanent shelter for survivors. NAHB, have designated Habitat for Humanity International and Shelter for Life International to be the recipients of the fund. Through NAHB donations, a Disaster Response Technical Center will be created in one of the affected countries Habitat is serving. Shelter For Life will build a “Home Builders Care Village” of starter homes in Sri Lanka with NAHB funds.
Please help by making a tax deductible donation to the Home Builders Care/National Housing Endowment-Tsunami Shelter Fund. Money raised by the National Housing Endowment will be granted to one or more U.S. charitable relief organizations working to help tsunami survivors obtain temporary and permanent shelter.
Please direct your donation check to:
