Steel Hotline Expands Hours and Resources

The Steel Framing Alliance has expanded the hours of its Steel Framing Hotline to provide home owners, developers, builders, engineers, building inspectors and others with quick and easy access to information about the design and construction of cold-formed steel-framed structures.

Based in Washington, D.C. at the National Housing Center, the Steel Framing Alliance is a member of the National Council of the Housing Industry — the Supplier 100 of NAHB.

Supervised on site by Nader Elhajj PE, director, structure and materials, for the NAHB Research Center, the Hotline’s new hours are 9:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday.

The hotline number is 800-79-STEEL (797-8335).

“In any given month, we field questions that range from building codes and design methods, to best construction practices, and over the years, these questions have become more sophisticated,” Elhajj said. “This reflects how the steel framing industry has matured, and also pointed out to us that there was a need for expanding the support that is available through the hotline.”

Conference Dates Set

The Steel Framing Alliance is currently preparing for its Mid-Atlantic Steel Framing Conference and Spring Forum, which will be held May 10-13 at the Historic Inns of Annapolis in Annapolis, Md.

The event will include an annual membership meeting, two full days of educational sessions, a steel-framing job site tour, a tool and technology expo, a tour of Mittal Steel's plant in Sparrow’s Point and a cruise on the Chesapeake Bay.
