HomeAid Chicago Completes $2 Million Shelter for Domestic Violence Victims
HomeAid Chicago, the official charity of the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago, and the non-profit WINGS (Women in Need of Growing Stronger) last month celebrated the completion of a nearly $2 million emergency shelter for women and children seeking safety from domestic violence.
The WINGS Safe House took a year to build and involved the support of 110 trade partners and vendors who worked on roofing, insulation, carpentry, paint, framing, electrical, plumbing and more.
From start to finish, construction of the facility was managed by home builder Kimball Hill, Inc., which donated its own resources to the project, including manpower.
“This is such a heartwarming story,” said Peter Schwartz, CEO of the Chicago builders association. “By building this shelter, HomeAid has brought home the seriousness of domestic violence and has worked to do something that will make a positive difference. Everyone involved in this effort should be very proud of the contribution they have made.”
