Beazer Homes Honored for Support of Student Chapters

Beazer Homes has been selected by the NAHB Student Chapters Advisory Board as this year’s recipient of the Distinguished Service Award in recognition of its support for the NAHB Student Chapters program. The award will be presented at the International Builders’ Show (IBS) in Orlando on Thursday, Jan. 13.

Year after year, Beazer Homes has been a key supporter of the NAHB Student Chapters — judging their annual competitions, participating in the Building Careers Job Fair and serving on the Student Chapters Advisory Board. This year, the Atlanta-based company is also sponsoring the program's annual Awards Ceremony at the Builders’ Show.

Beazer Homes recently lost one of its most dedicated staff members — Ed Snider, vice president of safety, training, warranty and quality control, who died of a heart attack on Oct. 14. Snider worked closely with Home Builders Institute programs, particularly the Student Chapters, serving on its advisory board and for the past four years as a judge in the national competitions.

"Ed was a lively and energetic friend who loved what he did and loved helping student members through his involvement in the NAHB Student Chapters," said Mark Hutchings, construction management professor at Brigham Young University and chair of the Student Chapters Advisory Board. "With people on staff such as Ed, we are sure that Beazer Homes will continue to help our student members in the future."

Previous winners of the Distinguished Service Award include Steve Nellis, vice president of recruiting for Centex Homes; Pulte Homes; Sam Kreis, a mortgage banker associate member of NAHB from Michigan; and Centex Homes.

The NAHB Student Chapters program is administered by the Home Builders Institute (HBI) and works to help enrich the educational experiences of students enrolled in construction-related studies and training. More than 3,000 student members at 151 high schools, technical schools, colleges, universities and HBI's Job Corps programs enjoy the benefits of membership in NAHB through participation in competitions, professional networks, conferences and industry exhibits.
