HUD Reforms Would Improve Performance of Federal Housing Programs
At its fall meeting in Columbus on Oct. 3, the NAHB Board of Directors finished ratifying the recommendations of a special association task force that has been deliberating over how to strengthen the effectiveness of the Department of Housing and Urban Development by improving its operations and programs.
With the efforts of the NAHB Task Force on Enhancing HUD’s Role in Housing now complete, the association will be working with HUD Secretary Alphonso Jackson and others to implement the recommended reforms. Legislation will be required to implement some of the recommendations, but others will require only regulatory changes or new policy at HUD.
Many of the task force recommendations were already supported by existing association policy. The NAHB directors voted on nine resolutions setting new policy in support of the recommendations:
