Fiberglass Doors Grace 'New American Castle' Show Home

Therma-Tru Doors is providing nine doors for a “New American Castle” project that is underway in Middlefield, MA, including seven new Classic-Craft® Rustic Collection™ entry systems and two Fiber-Classic® fire-rated doors.

Headquartered in Maumee, OH, Therma-Tru Doors is a member of the National Council of the Housing Industry — the Supplier 100 of NAHB.

When race car driver Kim Baker and his wife, Patricia, decided to build their dream home, their love of castles led them to the design of their 11,000-square-foot show home, which will be representing leading-edge products and services from more than 100 corporations.

“Deciding to build a castle is like building any other custom home — we required exceptional performance without compromising on the design,” said Patricia Baker. “The Rustic doors are a perfect combination of style and performance. The graining really adds an authenticity to the look of the doors, and the fiberglass provides the energy efficiency and durability we were looking for.”

“Therma-Tru’s Rustic Collection doors are a perfect complement to the Bakers’ castle architecture,” said Hal Gardner, Therma-Tru’s vice president of marketing. “The doors’ dramatic eight-foot heights and radius tops, coupled with the energy efficiency and durability of fiberglass, bring together old world charm and modern performance measures the New American Castle is showcasing.”

The new Rustic Collection combines the look of wood-grain panels and round tops or arches with modern materials and technology to ensure lasting beauty and performance.  The styling reflects the warm and inviting entryways of Tuscany, the American Southwest and even English and Scottish castles, with strong, simple lines and the look of hand-crafted quality.

Developed by Therma-Tru research and development engineers using the company’s unique and proprietary Classic-Craft technology, the Rustic style door system delivers thermal performance and lasting durability; unlike real wood, it won’t warp, rot, crack or split.

“The proprietary technology behind the Classic-Craft door allows Therma-Tru to create intricate real wood graining and detailing that no other manufacturer can produce,” said Gardner. “The Rustic style is an excellent example of how we can integrate advanced materials and innovative manufacturing techniques with unique design to produce door systems that elevate the presence and performance of the home.”

In addition to the Rustic Collection exterior door systems, the New American Castle will utilize two Fiber-Classic 20-minute rated fiberglass doors — the industry's only fiberglass entry door that meets the 20-minute positive pressure rating without intumescent jambs or weather stripping applied to the jambs. The new 20-minute rated fiberglass fire door features a proprietary patented core material to create its fire resistance.
