Resolutions Can Be Viewed on NAHB Web Site Prior to Spring Board

In accordance with the governance bylaw changes adopted by NAHB in 2002, all resolutions and recommendations to be considered at the upcoming NAHB Spring Board of Directors Meeting in Washington, D.C. should be submitted on or before Friday, April 2. All resolutions submitted after April 2, which is the required 30-day cut-off date, will require a two-thirds vote for passage by the board of directors rather than a simple majority.

Shortly after the April 2 deadline, NAHB will prepare and post on the NAHB Web site a short summary of all resolutions that will be considered during the board of directors meeting. The summary will include a brief description of each proposed resolution, the name of the original sponsor, the committees/councils to which the resolution has been referred and the name of the key NAHB staff person for that particular policy. The full text of the proposed resolutions also will be posted on NAHB’s Web site.

The following are the rules and procedures for submitting resolutions:

  • The full resolution/recommendation or a description of the action part of the resolution should be e-mailed, faxed or mailed to Jay Shackford at NAHB. He can be reached by phone at 800-368-5242 x8406, fax at 202-266-8131 or via e-mail.
  • Resolutions/recommendations submitted after the April 2 deadline will still be considered at the upcoming board meeting, but they will require a two-thirds vote (rather than a majority vote) for passage by the board of directors.

By providing local HBAs and other association leaders with an advance copy of resolutions several weeks before the board meeting, NAHB will be able to generate more discussion on policy issues at the grassroots level of the association and encourage greater participation by its directors during the policy-review process once the board meeting gets underway.

For information about the 30-day rule or the resolutions-review process, contact Jay Shackford or call him at 800-368-5242 x8406.
