A Year-End 'Thank You'

Was it only yesterday or a year ago that the gavel was passed to me for the Remodelors™ Council for 2003? As they say, “Time flies when you’re having fun!” Fly it did and fun it was. As a matter of fact, this column wasn’t even here last year; that’s some of the fun we had — creating both print and online versions of NBN, which are now eagerly anticipated “newsers.”

Your Remodelors™ Council had a terrific leadership team for 2003. Many have been giving to NAHB for years, some are newer to the privilege, all are bright, hard working and asked no reward. If you know any of them, say “thanks” the next time you see them. Your remodeling business is a little bit better off than it used to be because of them.

Here is the honor roll, the chairs of each of the boards and committees that constituted the 2003 Remodelors™ Council: CGR Board of Governors: Vince Butler, CGR; Membership and Council Development: Finley Perry; Public Affairs: Tony Thompson, CGR; Leadership Development: Alan Hanbury, CGR; Remodeler 20 Trustees: Joy Brand, CGR; CAPS Board of Governors: Dan Bawden, CGR; and our fine staff, headed by Executive Director Therese Crahan. Douglas Sutton, CGR, my vice chairman, is now the chairman and I wish him the same wonderful year I enjoyed.

The recognition of remodeling made giant steps forward in 2003. The contribution of remodelers to the work of the federation was highlighted for all the membership to see and a promise was made to include this enormously important portion of the shelter industry in construction data reports. We cannot rest on this promise, but rather we must make sure that our industry continues to improve its presence, its contribution and its recognition.

Please accept my most sincere gratitude for the opportunity extended my way as your chairman. It was a lifetime experience that I wholeheartedly recommend.

Sincerely,

M M (Mike) Weiss
